President Richard Bartlett called the meeting to order at 7:30

1. Minutes of April 11, 2002 were discussed & corrected then approved. Approved copies sent to Dick Bartlett.
2. Treasurer's Report: $1,613.08
3. President's update: Dick reported on three letters that he sent on behalf of CARE.
a. A letter of appreciation was sent to Jefferson County Public Information3. Nominating Committee: No report
Officer for the diligent protection of neighbors in a recent incident on
Colorow Rd.
b. A letter in response to a request from the "Hogback Conservancy
Coalition" (HCC) concerning zoning changes in the Morrison Willow Brook Area
south of 285. HCC is opposed to zoning changes to accommodate 6,000
students of Colorado Christian University with their impending impact on the
environment. The University buildings could carry TV & Radio Towers,
arising above the ridge line as well.
c. The third letter to Senator Tom Tancredo a concise one pager making him
aware of the "gross misuse" of Federal Highway Funds to enlarge the parking
lot at the bottom of Highway 40. Dick explained the existence of nearby
parking areas, and the importance of carpooling.
4. Committee reports:
A. Tower Committee:
May 7. Morrison passed a resolution against towers on Morrison Mountain.5. Old Business:
June 5 Morrison Mayor will appear before Jeffco Commissioners.There is a new Towers Video that can be shown to HOA's. A motion made by
Carole Lomond for a review of this video before it is circulated. Motion was
seconded & passed Dick Bartlett will review the video & bring it to the June
CARE meeting.May 8 Mother's March was a great success. Coverage was in both newspapers.
May 11 Tivoli Deer Dinner & Theater at the Morrison Town Hall.
Morrison Towers Hearings June 5, 12, & 26.
B. Wildfire Committee Fire Hazard signs remain on high. Rooney Road Slash
Site is open. Community Slash Site next to Highland Rescue building July 20
& 21 again August 24 & 25.Jeff & Susan Landon reported on their HOA meeting, Roco Snart the Office of
Emergency Management Fire Mitigator Officer, attended. The issue of the
Beaver Brook Trail fire hazard potential to the various HOA"S along the
trail was the primary focus of the meeting. Jeff & Susan made the following
motion showing the groups concern:
That CARE begins the process of forming a coalition of forces to address the
growing fire danger in the foothill area. The entities asked to join this
coalition would be government, conservancies, HOA's & private landowners.
As a first step CARE will write a letter to organizations asking them to
pledge their financial & other support to create a "Shaded Fuel Break" on
the up-hill side of the Beaver Brook Trail along its' entire length. The
motion was discussed & seconded by Dick Bartlett. Joan Schwarz & Janet
Permian will start work on this issue.C. Survey report: No report.
D. Hogback Parking: See (Presidents Update) Letter sent to Senator
Trancredo. Joan also spoke of contacting a local hiking group to ask their
help to find a particular plant (Pysaria bellii). A Research Associate from
Denver Botanic Garden will be their leader. This plant is considered a
'Rare Plant' if found it would be reported to CDOT for their consideration.
Those assembled agreed Joan should contact the hiking group & carryon.E. Community Awareness/Fund Raising: Colin reported that he is cataloging
CARE Area's 'Large Land Holders' & will contact the Mountain Area Land Trust
in Evergreen (MALT) consult with them as to their approach to such
landowners.F. Trails & Recreation: No report.
G. Quarry trucks: Uncovered trucks remain a problem. Suggestion was to get
name of Truck Company & report it to LaFarge.H. Transportation: No report.
I. Artist Studio Tour: Janet reported phone calls are complete & that about
25 artists will be participating. Some artists need a place to show their
work & that is being considered.J. Development: Dick received the usual announcement from Jeffco Zoning &
Planning. "True North Log Homes" has applied for a "Permitted use for a
model home, business & professional offices associated with the sale of the
property". It would include 9-10 parking spaces. The location is slightly
east from the "Healing Arts Center" on the south side of Highway 40.
Joan announced that Christina Shea expressed interest in maintaining CARE's Web Site.Respectively submitted
