CARE Meeting Minutes
June 13, 2002

There will be no CARE monthly meetings for July and August.  Next meeting will be September 12th.

Those Attending were:

Richard  Bartlett
Genesee Crossing
Colin Barton
Genesee Foundation
Deb Carney
Paradise Hills/ T.H.R.E.A.T.
Janet Perriman
Mount Vernon Country Club
1.   President Dick Bartlett called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. at Mount Vernon Country Club.

2.   Minutes from the May meeting were approved as distributed.

3.   Treasurer's Report - CARE has $1,583.80 in its bank account.

4.   President's Update - Stolen Mail - Colin discussed locked mailboxes.  These mailboxes allow mail and small
packages to be delivered, but allows access only by the key holder.  This has stopped mail robberies in Genesee and some areas of Lookout Mountain, for those who use the locked box.  Outgoing mail must be dropped off at any USPS mailbox, i.e. at the Genesee Town Center.

5.   Committee Reports:

A.   THREAT/Towers -
- Deb reminded us of the hearings on Mt. Morrison and other applications and court actions.  Deb and committee will try to meet with concert promoters at Red Rocks to inform them of interference from Mt. Morrison.
- Channel 2 Board of Appeals regarding digital and analog TV transmitting.
- KHIH Tower and Building

B.   Wildfire -
- Slash Days will be July 20, 21 and August 24 & 25.  The Saturday and Sunday
Hours will be 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- CARE has information on shaded fuel breaks from Colorado Forestry Service,
contact Joan.
- Genesee is working on shaded fuel breaks along their two-entrance road into
their area.

C.   Community Center Survey
The survey committee will meet in July with Todd Bacigalupi, professor who oversaw the survey.  The committee wants to know how to interpret the results.  Results will be shared with CARE Members at the September meeting.

D.  Open Space, Trails - There is a meeting on July 10th at 7:00 p.m. to discuss Open Space and Denver Mountain Parks Recreation Management Plan.  This is a follow-up meeting to the one held about a year ago at the Evergreen Lake House.  Information is available at www.denvergov.org/gameplan

E.   Quarry Truck Problems
- Uncovered loads - Dick Bartlett reported that in his recent observations 10 of 12 trucks had covered their gravel loads.  A CDOT dump truck and one independent hauler were not covered.  If CARE wishes to improve the percentage of covered loads, then we need to get volunteers to observe trucks at the Morrison exit interchange and write down the license plates of the offending trucks.  This information could be forwarded to Colorado State Patrol and to LaFarge for further action.

F.   Transportation - No draft PEIS for I-70, meetings have been suspended until September.

G.   Artists Studio Tour - No report

H.   Land Use - C-470 Corridor Plan was discussed.  Since the activity is happening south of Highway 285, it was decided to “assist if asked” as this phase is outside of the CARE area.
- Rainbow Hills road easement and utility easement on the south edge of two 10-acre parcels was discussed.  No objections to the proposed plan.

I.   Lariat Loop - Car rally will be held June 22.

6.   July and August meetings- After discussion, it was decided to suspend CARE meetings during the summer.  The next meeting will be September 12th.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:42 p.m.
