Special presentation:
Pat Shanks displayed the comprehensive map being prepared of all homes,
other structures and roads in the Foothills Fire District for use in emergency
planning and evacuation. CARE representatives prepared detailed maps of
their neighborhoods which Pat Shanks and Greg Lee of U.S. Geological Survey
used to create a master map using facilities and technology at Denver Federal
Center in Lakewood.

Motion to approve minutes of the April 8 meeting with corrections
was moved by Deb Carney and seconded by Colin Barton.
Treasurer's
Report:
Treasurer Cynthia Pougiales reported a current balance is $1,644.13
. This does not include cash and check contributions received for T.H.R.E.A.T.
(Tower Hazards & Radiation Exposure Above Tolerance) account of Antenna
Tower Committee. Those funds are being accounted for to the board.

President's
Report:
President Jeff Holland reported that decision was postponed until
May 26 by Denver City Council Subcommittee on Department of Parks and Recreation
proposal for Genesee Park/Chief Hosa Lodge change in management and creation
of a "Winterpark." CARE members Don Patton and Jeff Holland attended hearings.
CARE wrote letter to City Council opposing "Winterpark" proposal.
Evergreen incorporation proposal appears to be overwhelmingly opposed in
Evergreen.
Discussion to invite border area communities to participate in CARE, including
residents of Rainbow Hills, Cold Springs, Moss Rock and Swede Gulch.
CARE letter sent to politicians in support of Golden's concerns about proposed
Northwest Parkway asking for comprehensive environmental impact statement
and feasibility study. Also letter sent thanking Golden Public Works Director
Dan Hartman for his presentation at April 8 meeting.
Noted new CARE address with Private Mail Box designation: 25958 Genesee
Trail Rd., PMB-203, Golden, CO 80401-5701.
Reported that CARE wrote letter to State Rep. John Witwer thanking
him for his representation of area residents in support of proposed state
legislation to monitor health effects of electromagnetic radiation, specifically
in Lookout Mountain community.
CARE wrote letter to JeffCo Commissioners opposing Mount Morrison tower.
Committee Reports:
HOA (Homeowners’ Association) Mentoring: Gary Fluitt, who maintains CARE web sites, is adding online links to area neighborhoods from the CARE web page. The Denver company E-central is hosting CARE Web site at no charge. Gary invites interested volunteers to June 10 CARE meeting to learn additional details about maintaining CARE and neighborhood Web sites.New Business:Wildfire: Joan Schwarz offered list of forest service contractors available to help residents cut trees and create defensible space around dwellings. She has heard that home insurance companies, notably State Farm, may not agree to insure mountain homes that have not created defensible space.
Nancy Burke invited citizens to participate in the new Foothills Fire Department Auxiliary. Volunteers can learn CPR, be weather and smoke-watchers, supply food to firefighters and help with child care during emergencies.
Colorow Hill residents reported several fires started by nonresidents visiting Lookout Mountain Nature Center and Open Space land, as well as fire crackers set off in parking lot at Boettcher Mansion on July 4, 1998.
Motion by Joan Schwarz seconded by Deb Carney to ask JeffCo Sheriff's Department , Denver Mountain Parks and Foothills Fire Department to close Lariat Trail to traffic and to add special patrols for fire watch on July 4. Motion by Deb Carney seconded by Ron Larson to reimburse Cynthia for $444 in expenses for her work through CARE organizing Colorado Heritage Area, which has evolved into a separate, independent community-wide alliance that is no longer affiliated with or dependent on CARE. f. No. report h. 1999 CARE Artist Studio Tour -Carole Lomond reported Bob Smith will organized CARE fund-raising artistsÕ tour scheduled in September. Approximately 20 artists donated items to the May 23 fund-raising dinner for T.H.R.E.A.T. at Mount Vernon Country Club. 8. New Business Clear Creek Clean-Up day is May 22.
Beaverbrook watershed/Chavez Trail: Don Patton reported on Clear Creek Land Conservatory's annual Beaver Brook Trail hike June 5. SOLVE representatives are talking to Golden City Council on watershed issue.

Antenna Tower Committee: Tower Committee/T.H.R.E.A.T. organization -Deb Carney reported on JeffCo Board of Zoning Appeal's denial of CARE's appeal of zoning board's decision to allow Fox Channel 31 to add additional antennae.
Regarding supertower status, JeffCo Department of Health is recommending JeffCo Board consider adopting electromagnetic radiation standards that are "as low as achievable," not what Federal Communication Commission allows. CARE members continue to present testimony and evidence to show none of the towers should be permitted anywhere within CARE boundaries.
She reported that Health Study bill was defeated in Colorado legislature. It may be reintroduced after supertower zoning decision.
A lawyer is filing application for CARE's 501 c(3) status.
Author Blake Levitt, a science and medicine journalist specializing in electromagnetic radiation topics, has donated copies of her book on this topic to CARE to sell as a T.H.R.E.A.T. fund-raiser.
