Newsletters

May 22, 2006

Friends and Neighbors,

We thought you would find this great newsletter, prepared by the City of Golden and mailed to all their residents, powerful and informative. (Click here to read the City of Golden's newsletter...)

Over the last several weeks many of us have been subject to television ads, phone “surveys”, and mailers professing the benefits of the proposed Lookout Mountain SuperTower. This Broadcasting Syndicate (a.k.a., Lake Cedar Group), has spent millions of dollars attempting to revise the facts to meet their needs.

But facts don’t change. And the Broadcasters seem to be a forgetful bunch. In 1997, they knew that radiation levels on Lookout Mountain were 25% OVER Federal standards. But they forgot to tell us …and the FCC did nothing. We discovered the violations in 1998 and in spite of our constant protests to the FCC, in April 2006 (9 years later!), readings corroborated by Jeffco showed radiation levels on Lookout Mountain were still 120% of the levels permitted by Federal law.

They want to consolidate the towers. What they forgot to tell us is that with this proposed consolidation:

  • The effective radiated power generated by this Broadcasting Syndicate will increase from 732,000 to 9,732,000 watts
  • Hundreds of homes and families on the mountain and in Golden will sit in the immediate
    target of these beams
  • The circumference of the tower will increase four-fold
  • The tower would be “adorned” with dozens of other transmission devices
  • The tower would be accompanied with a 20,000 square foot utility building

Industrial structures do not belong in residential neighborhoods. Proven, alternative sites exist.
